One of the reasons most applications do not receive positive responses is the lack of relevance, employers report that up to 75% of the applications they receive do not qualify. That's a huge gap that needs to be addressed on both sides of the equation - employers need to make sure they clearly list their requirements and job seekers should only apply to jobs when they meet these. Today's post by our CV writing expert will give you some tips to find jobs that match your experience level and getting this information across.
Clean out your search
The best way not to apply to jobs that you don't qualify for is to start with not getting them in your search results! This is done by adding more keywords to your search query, at CV to Dublin, we don't believe in only searching by job titles, add the type of industry or responsibilities you'd like to have. This will also reduce the amount of results you get!
Tip: go to the advanced search options on most sites, you will be able to add more keywords and even filter results based on the required years of experience.
Identify the "must-haves"
When you look for a job, pay attention to the requirements/list of responsibilities that are listed. If the job says it requires "3 to 5 years of experience" in a domain, you really shouldn't apply unless you meet this requirement - for most junior roles (less than 5 years experience), this can be understood a bit loosely if you have around 2 full years experience in this domain, it's still ok to apply, just know that you will be in competition with people who fully qualify and may not get the recruiter's priority.
Tip: make sure your experience level shines through, sometimes this can be done by clarifying your job title on your CV by using a more generic one (you can always put this clarification in between parentheses).
Be wise - give them the information they require
Job requirements will often include a list of other requirements that would demand numbers - "ability to meet and exceed targets" - make sure you tailor your CV for the occasion and add a line to your experience detail explain how you did against your targets- "Reached 120% of the revenue target after 3 months". Be ready to explain howyou achieved this in the interview too!
Tip: your past achievements are the key to your future success! Bet on them by adding them to your CV and always be ready to explain how you attained those - a candidate that can't explain how they managed over-achieving will not earn a recruiter's trust.
Once again, best of luck in your job search, we really hope these tips will help you matching your experience level and job requirements in your job search.
